Series Preview - Red Sox @ Yankees

We've finally made it. The Red Sox season is upon us, and there is no better way to start it. Going into enemy territory, and ripping the heart out of the Yankees in front of their home crows. Let's get into it.

I will start each of these blogs throughout the year with the pitching matchups. With this being the first series of the season, we are seeing both team's top 3 guys, so lets see who will be putting their nuts on the table.

Friday April 8th 1:05 PM - Nathan Eovaldi (0-0 0.00 ERA) vs Gerrit Cole (0-0 0.00 ERA)

Saturday April 9th 4:05 PM - Nick Pivetta (0-0 0.00 ERA) vs Luis Severino (0-0 0.00 ERA)

Sunday April 10th 7:08 PM - Tanner Houck (0-0 0.00 ERA) vs Jordan Montgomery (0-0 0.00 ERA)

The Picks

Boy oh boy would I like to put the house on Gerrit Cole getting absolutely pounded in the first game, but I have along standing tradition of not touching the game 1 of the season. I like to just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the game, the joy in Devers' eyes as he assaults baseballs, the perfect teeth of JD Martinez, and the handsomeness of Xander Bogaerts.

So, looking at the other 2 matchups, I am taking the Sox and the over in game 3. The Red Sox core have traditionally teed off against Jordan Montgomery, and I think that trend will likely continue. In 26 at-bats, Xander is hitting .462, and surprisingly Vazquez and Arroyo have the next best stats. Arroyo has 2 bombs in 6 at-bats, with another single mixed in there. Vazquez has 6 hits in 18 at-bats with 2 of those being Home Runs. The only key guy that struggles against Montgomery is JD. He is batting 1 for 18 against the lefty.

That doesn't mean he will be quiet the whole series though. He is our best hitter against Luis Severino. In 21 plate appearance, he has 7 hits, with 2 of those being doubles, while Raffy and Xander are batting a combined 4 for 42. Another bet I will be making is the under in game 2. Looking at our full roster, not one of our guys has ever hit a home run off of Severino. I think that one will be a pitchers duel from start to finish.

On this highest of holy days, make your bed, throw on your favorite pair of underwear, get that fancy coffee you like, belt out a song in the shower. Earn it. At 1:05 today we ride. It is and always has been fuck Gerrit Cole. Go Sox, and have a good one.
